Estevan will be buzzing this weekend with players, coaches, staff, parents and fans from all over Saskatchewan, as well as scouts from all levels of North American hockey, taking over Spectra Place for the SJHL Showcase.
The Bruins are hosting the annual event, which sees all 12 SJHL teams play in one venue for three days in front of scouts from the junior and college ranks, and even from the NHL.
The weekend kicks off Friday at 11 a.m. with the Weyburn Red Wings playing the La Ronge Ice Wolves.
Each day will feature games at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The Bruins play Friday at 7:30 p.m. against the Humboldt Broncos and Sunday at 2 p.m. against the Yorkton Terriers.
At least 220 volunteers will be pressed into service to make the event happen.
Roughly 25 scouts are expected to attend, and Bruins president Jeff Pierson said he's been in contact with scouts from the Edmonton Oilers and Minnesota Wild as well as NHL Central Scouting.
"As it gets closer, you kind of realize just what it is that we're bringing to the city," he said.
"I think as a hockey club we're very excited about it and prepared to put on a showcase that's long remembered."
