Bill Slykhuis of B & A Holdings Ltd., a landscaping company out of Arcola, and Tyler Englot’s GMG Smokers held a pulled pork lunch in Redvers recently, with all proceeds going towards a community beautification project.
B & A Holdings has been in business since 2006 and Slykhuis decided it was time to give back to a community that has been so good to him.
"I don't mind donating to communities providing I get work in return,” he said.
“We did a donation to the community and put on a pulled pork dinner, raising $1,200, which went towards the community beautification,” explains Slykhuis. “I put this lunch on as a thank you to the community of Redvers for the business they gave me and in return gave back to the community.”
B & A will be applying a rubber layer over the existing sidewalks in downtown Redvers for the project.
“I look at it in the way that the community has given me a lot of business over the years so I feel this is one way I can give back,” explains Slykhuis.
In addition, B & A Holdings is offering the businesses and residents of Redvers a half-price sale for a limited time.
For example if a resident is wanting a step replacement that regularly costs $1,000, they would pay only $500 with B & A paying the rest.
The company will resurface the existing step or sidewalk with a rubber substance.
“The product has a five-year warranty but I believe in the product so much that I go beyond that,” explains Slykhuis.
Bonnie Rutten, chief administrative officer for the Town of Redvers, explains that the town has a grant to do the repairs but decided to add flowers.
“With everyone having to stay indoors and stay at home, we decided to ramp up the community through the beautification project.”
“Let’s actually make it a nice place to stay.”
