Nomination papers were filed Monday for the Estevan trustee positions with both the South East Cornerstone Public and Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Boards.

Nomination papers were filed Monday for the Estevan trustee positions with both the South East Cornerstone Public and Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Boards.

Kevin Keating filed to be an Estevan trustee on the Cornerstone board, joining Eric McCrimmon in the race. Keating is currently the Cornerstone trustee for Subdivision 4, which includes Bienfait, Lampman, Alameda and Oxbow.

As for Holy Family, Beckey Franke has filed her papers to be an Estevan trustee. She joins incumbent Karen Melle in the field to be an Estevan representative.

There are two Estevan trustee positions on each of Holy Family and South East Cornerstone. If nobody else files nomination forms, then the Estevan candidates for each school board will be declared elected by acclamation.

If another nomination form is received for Holy Family for the Estevan trustee position, there will be an election. The same goes for South East Cornerstone.

As for the Estevan city council election, the number of candidates remains the same, with two for mayor and nine for city councillor.

The mayoral candidates are incumbent Roy Ludwig and challenger Ray Walton.

The councillor candidates are incumbents Travis Frank and Shelly Veroba, and newcomers Blaine Chrest, Lindsay Clarke, Rebecca Foord, Geoff Thiessen, Kirsten Walliser, Bernadette Wright and Allan Yergens.

In the RM of Estevan, Terry Keating is seeking a second term as the reeve of the RM.

Keating filed his nomination papers for the job last week. He became the reeve in the 2016 election after defeating Kelly Lafrentz, who held the reeve post for several years.

Nobody else had filed for reeve as of Monday afternoon.

Elections will be needed in divisions 1, 3 and 5 in the RM. In Division 1, incumbent Councillor Lorne Jahn is being challenged by Jeff Mack, and in Division 3, incumbent Councillor Dennis Blackburn will face Kevin Daoust. As for Division 5, Tania Hlohovsky Andrist and Mona Dukart are vying for the seat.

Elections for Divisions 2, 4 and 6 will happen in 2022.

The deadline to file nomination papers is Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. Those running for city councillor or mayor in Estevan will also need to have a criminal records check completed and filed before the deadline.
