A longtime community volunteer and former pastor Rev. Ross McMurtry passed away on Monday at the age of 92 years.

He preached in many locations for around 60 years, including for three decades at Grace United Church in Weyburn before he retired in 1990.

McMurtry was very involved in the community, as he spearheaded the committees for the Tommy Douglas statue, located along the boardwalk by the Souris River, and the Pioneer Woman statue, located at the corner of Fifth Street and First Avenue.

He worked alongside Isabelle Butters on those committees, and she noted he helped people out who didn’t have a home church to attend or needed counseling. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends on coffee row.
