Name: Victor Lau
Age: 50
Running for: Green Party, in Regina Wascana
Profession: Consultant
Currently residing in (city or neighbourhood): Regina
Previous political experience: Active in politics for over 30 years
Who is your political hero?
Ed Whelan who introduced me to Tommy Douglas (CCF Premier).
What inspired you to enter the election race?
To promote Guaranteed Livable Income as the best solution to eliminate poverty.
What topics are most important to you in this federal election?
Income Security (Guaranteed Livable Income), Homelessness (provide Tiny Homes, rent control), Truth and Reconciliation (honest partnerships), Climate Action (end fossil fuel subsidies, create Green Jobs).
Are you concerned about the short campaign time line for this election?
Not at all. Only wished it started in September rather than August.
What supports, if any, do you feel are needed to help businesses and residents with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic?
The easiest support to put in would be Guaranteed Livable Income (GLI). This plan would create over $120 Billion in economic activity while simultaneously eliminating poverty.
What, if any, agricultural federal programs and initiatives do you feel are necessary to help support farmers and ranchers in this year’s conditions?
Removing lots of the red tape that makes applying/receiving needed support for the farmers/ranchers. Plus put in incentive programs to help both groups transition towards a greener future.
Is there an issue that people are focusing too much?
Trying to create more jobs. We do not need more fake jobs. We need to ensure everyone has adequate incomes (GLI) and a safe climate future.
Is there an issue that doesn’t get enough attention?
Our senior citizens. We all will be old and retired someday. Canada does not do enough to ensure a dignified and enjoyable lifestyle for All seniors in their golden years. The Longterm Care Homes are an utter disgrace.
Why did you choose to run for your particular party?
I am a Green Party of Canada candidate because their platform has the best solutions to improve Canada and save the earth from the Climate Emergency.

What is the biggest issue facing your party’s chance at success?
Lack of resources to promote the Green Party and lack of coverage of our practical solutions. Plus no Proportional Representation.
How will you engage and encourage young voters to participate in this election?
Through social media and online messaging. We also tried to offer hope for the future generations.
What is your party’s leader’s biggest flaw?
Has a difficult time seeing who is her enemy and who is not.
Once elected, your job is to represent your entire riding. How do you plan on representing individuals who didn’t vote for you?
Regular constituency meetings in the Riding to discuss pertinent issues of concern, always be open to feedback and work with all voters in Regina–Wascana to make our community the best place to live, work and play.
What informs your political stance? What books, publications, relationships or experiences?
I read a lot of our Party background/policies. I also do research. My long time involvement in politics and activism helps a lot. Here’s a book recommendation: Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman (also is a movie).
What local project or service would you advocate for more federal spending?
More funding to create Community Service Jobs that help build youth into the future leaders that will bring healing and balance to our world.
What is something people don’t know about you?
I was a big, nerdy introverted youth and only learned how to have confidence to do public speaking when I became political at the University of Regina.
