ASSINIBOIA - Town officials, and members of the Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association had a chance to tour the construction site of the new Southland Co-op Centre Arena on June 8.
“It was a milestone day, as they were pouring the cement for the new rink. We had a small ceremony, and cast the master key from the old rink into the cement, connecting the history of what was old, with what will be new,” said Curtis Nelson, president of the Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association.
Flooring was being installed in the dressing rooms, with painting and millwork being completed. The new locker rooms are almost complete.
Landscaping outside, and the sidewalks around the building are also near complete.
Construction of the new Southland Co-op Centre Arena is projected to be complete by the end of August. According to Nelson, a grand opening celebration will be held on Saturday, September 10.
Nelson did note that the budget for the new arena is now projected to be $17.5 million.
The Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association just recently completed their Spring Fever Lotto for 2022, which was a major fundraiser for the Southland Co-op Centre Arena. It was a sell-out, with a record-breaking 50/50 draw.
