The Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism (SSM) is seeking nominations of outstanding senior volunteers in a number of categories, with the deadline for nominations on Thursday, June 1.
The SSM is a non-profit volunteer organization that acts as an umbrella for Saskatchewan seniors organizations, to contribute to a better quality of life for seniors.
There are several categories that volunteers can be nominated in, including team work, centenarian (given to a senior who is 90 years or older and is still an active volunteer), community leadership (urban and rural), advocacy, arts and entertainment (for a senior who actively participates and/or supports the arts and entertainment), contribution to a First Nations or Metis community, intergenerational (for an individual or group who works to create positive interaction and learning between older and younger generations), fitness, heritage and culture, education and lifetime achievement, with a special category for senior-friendly businesses.
All nominees must be 55 years of age or older, be residents of the province, and make an outstanding volunteer contribution in Saskatchewan either at the local or provincial level.
Each nominee can only be nominated in one category, and nominations can be made by any person or organization.

Those who receive an award cannot be nominated in their categories for the following five years. If a nominee is not chosen to be an award recipient, they can be nominated in the same or other categories in subsequent years.
The awards will be presented this fall at an awards banquet on Sunday, Oct. 1, at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina.
