Photos: Estevan area residents showed up in droves to support Ukraine

Funds will be directed to people of Ukraine

ESTEVAN - Residents of the Estevan area have been showing their support for the people of Ukraine on Sunday.

A fundraising supper has been taking place at the Royal Canadian Legion's Estevan branch. For $20 per plate, people have been enjoying sausage, perogies, cabbage rolls, borscht and a bun.

The benefit was supposed to start at 4 p.m., but doors opened about 15 minutes early due to the number of people who were in line and eager to show their support.

Members of the Estevan Ukrainian community have organized the supper, and the money raised will be sent to people in the country, which was invaded by Russia in late February. The war between the two countries is ongoing.

The next edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
