REGINA — Saskatchewan’s weekly data release is showing the number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is continuing to grow, reaching a new record high on Tuesday.
The provincial dashboard shows that hospitalizations have reached a new peak with 370 individuals in hospital, surpassing the previous record of 356 in October 2021.
Between Jan. 26 and Feb. 1, 7,736 new positive cases were recorded by public health, bringing the total active case count to 11,370.
Almost two-fifths of the new cases are reported to be in the age category of 20 to 39 years.
Another 9,091 recoveries also occurred during this period, as well as sixteen additional deaths.
The current seven day average of new cases is now 1,105, or 91.7 per 100,000.
Of those hospitalized currently, 331 are in inpatient care and 39 in ICU care, and a total of 169 of those individuals were admitted due to COVID-related illness.
A total of 30,049 doses of vaccine were delivered in the past week, including first, second and third doses. Total vaccination rates have seen little movement, with 79 per cent of residents over the age of five fully vaccinated — the same figure as last week’s report.
Nine individuals received a $2,800 fine for violating public health orders in the past week, in Estevan, Grenfell, Fort Qu'Appelle, Maple Creek, Leader, Wynyard and Hudson Bay.
