"We are thrilled to once again offer our fantastic park programs that campers have come to know and love over the years," Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross said. "New this year are 17 special event days across provincial parks that are jam-packed with great entertainment, food and exciting activities that park visitors won't want to miss out on."
Coming up this Saturday, July 17:
- Get Your Feet Wet - Pike Lake Provincial Park
- This water-filled day will kick off with free rowing lessons followed by games at the pool and activities on the beach, including yoga, relay races, sandcastle competitions and build-your-own sailboats. The day will also include a cooler race on the lake, a guided painting session, an evening paddle and live music by The Brothers G. The day will finish with a midnight swim at the pool from 9:30-11:30 p.m. ($2 per person).
- Loons & Tunes - Meadow Lake Provincial Park - Murray Doell Campground
- The day will consist of beach games, a sandcastle contest and a pop-up shop with boat demos from Fresh Air Experience. Visitors can register for a guided canoe paddle to learn about paddling and the loons that reside within the park. The Highbush Clanberries will be performing at 7 p.m. at Murray Doell campground, overlooking the beautiful Lac des Iles.
Event participants should register for special events in advance by requesting tickets online at www.parks.saskatchewan.ca. Those who pre-register will be entered to win a Sask Parks prize pack. Pre-registration will help ensure event partners are able to accommodate all attendees.
Sask Express will also be touring provincial parks once again this summer, presenting "Your Dream Come True", the musical game show that brings your vacation to life. Guests can bring their blankets and lawn chairs and settle in under the sunset for an evening of song and family-friendly entertainment.
Guided in-person programming, led by Sask Parks interpreters, will be available at 20 provincial parks and includes activities such as forest hikes, survival skill lessons, scavenger hunts, campfire games and more. Park visitors can take a step back in time at Cannington Manor, Fort Carlton and Wood Mountain Post provincial historic parks with guided tours, programs and special events.
Self-guided Park Activity Kits are available for pick-up daily in a number of parks. The kits include everything needed to complete a craft, explore the park, or spark creativity from a campsite. Distribution boxes can be found at visitor centres, service centres or check-out kiosks.
