Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for much of the province and parts of the province are under a winter storm warning.
According to an advisory released early Sunday, it states that a strong storm system will affect southern and central Saskatchewan on Tuesday.
The area southwest of the Yellowhead Highway will see strong winds through the day, Environment Canada said, with peak gusts in excess of 90 kilometres per hour expected.
Near the Yellowhead itself, a band of freezing rain is likely to develop, making travel slippery for a few hours throughout the day.
Areas north of the Yellowhead are expected to see heavy snowfall. Current indications are that anywhere from 10-30 centimetres of snow may fall, especially in a line from Lloydminster and Meadow Lake to The Pas, Man.
There is some uncertainty with regard to timing and exact location of this system, but Environment Canada said it appears likely that this system will adversely affect much of Saskatchewan on Tuesday.
A fog warning was also issued Sunday afternoon for many of the same areas. It notes that a ridge of high pressure with weak winds will settle, allowing fog to develop late Sunday evening. It is expected to persist late into Monday morning.
Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility.
