Strategic planning and action goals made by Assiniboia Town Council

Upcoming meetings planned for strategic planning and action goals for future projects for the Town of Assiniboia was discussed during the Council meeting on September 20.

ASSINIBOIA - The Town of Assiniboia Council held a meeting in chambers on September 20. In attendance were: Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; Kerri Martin, executive assistant; Clint Mauthe, chief admin officer; Councilors Paul Tendler, Peter Kordus, Graham Harvey, Patrick Grondin, Kent Fettes and Robert Ellert; Stephanie VanDeSype, recreation and community manager; and Nick Zuck, director of operations.

After the meeting was called to order, the agenda was adopted and motioned by Fettes and Kordus, and then accepted.

There was a public acknowledgement to Assiniboia Times for coverage of the meeting. All minutes from last meeting accepted as read. Motioned by Ellert and Kordus. Carried.

Mauthe reported on upcoming meetings planned for strategic planning and action goals for future projects for the town. This will be done in house to keep the cost down by not hiring a specialist that can be very costly. Financial summary report given and paid bills motion to accept was made by Fettes/Grondin.

Council Presentations- Kordus attended the Show and Shine at the Assiniboia Museum. Well attended, lots of great cars. Harvey attended the Prince of Wales meeting. There are not a lot of bookings coming up there. Grondin and Ellert met with Walker projects in Regina. It was a very good meeting with encouraging results.

Schauenberg attended another zoom meeting with SE Health Region. Career Fair was postponed for this year. There was a reminder of Good Neighbour Day. She will attend a doctor recruitment meeting mid to end of October.

Harvey raised a question on the drainage issue on Suburban Street. Council was informed a meeting has been set to discuss proposals to fix this. Discussion of the new equipment set to come for the dump. After relooking at the financial aspects it was decided that the best decision has been made.

Council meetings will change in the months of October and November to accommodate attendance. October meetings will be the 12 and 25. November meetings will be 8 and 22. Motion to accept by Ellert and Fettes. Carried.

Truth and Reconciliation Stat Holiday: there was discussion on if the Town of Assiniboia will observe this day (September 30) as a stat holiday. Motion for further education made by Fettes/ Harvey. Carried

Tax Enforcement Phase Two will move into effect, motioned by Ellert/Fettes. Carried. Family Centre requested approval for a one-year lease. Motioned by Ellert/ Fettes. Carried.

Centennial Park: There is a need for more power at the park when there is a function planned at the park. Haywire Electric will facilitate that project, coming from Rec and Community budget with any shortage of cash covered by Town reserve. Motioned by Grondin / Krodus. Carried.

Saskatchewan German Heritage Council: Request has been made for the Town to fly the German flag at the Town Office from October 1 to 8. 

Motion to accept this Kordus/ Ellert. Carried.

The next meeting scheduled for Oct. 12.
