ASSINIBOIA - There were about 20 vehicles that left from Assiniboia, picking up more truckers and supporters along the way, as they headed to Regina to participate in the Saskatchewan Solidarity Convoy on Saturday.
The event culminated in support of the Freedom Convoy 2022 that arrived on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. “It was insane. I have never seen anything like the amount of people on the streets like that before. It was so crowded, and I would say it was comparable to the crowds on the streets for a rider playoff game,” said Warren Neff, who was driving the lead vehicle for the Assiniboia participants.
“It was hard to say how many people we had on the highway, but I would say that there were times when the trucks covered over a mile and a half long, as we made our way to Moose Jaw.”
The Sask Solidarity Convoy was not just about protesting the current federal border policy, but it was also about showing unity and patriotism, and support for the Freedom Convoy.
“There has been a lot of division across the country in the past few years, and COVID has really ramped it up. These convoys do show you that there is support across the nation, and a unity, and that people of all ages and all races can come together.”
Neff said that he feels the efforts of the truckers were noticed, especially as Premier Scott Moe put out a statement on his Facebook page that he supported and backed the truckers. In the same statement, Moe says that in the not too distant future his government will be ending its proof of negative test/proof of vaccination policy in Saskatchewan.
