WEYBURN - The University of Regina announced the launch of UR Days – a travelling education expo and speaker series geared toward energizing and inspiring the next generation of U of R students. Throughout the month of May, President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jeff Keshen will be joined by U of R faculty and staff as he tours the province to meet future students at high schools in Weyburn, Yorkton, Swift Current, Regina, and Prince Albert.
The University of Regina will visit Weyburn on Monday, May 9 at the Cugnet Centre, Weyburn Comprehensive School.
Through a variety of classroom and after-school activities, along with an on-site information expo, students will learn all about the university’s dynamic academic and athletic programs, cutting-edge research, and what campus life has to offer at the U of R.
“I look forward to travelling around the province and meeting with the next generation of U of R students. Our University is a wonderful place to receive an affordable, top-quality post-secondary education,” said Dr. Keshen. “We set our students up for both life and career success and I am so proud to show off the best of what the U of R has to offer.”
In each of the five cities, the U of R will also host a free, open to the public, evening speaker series.
Swish Goswami, who will join virtually at all five events, is only 24 years old and has already worked with companies like Netflix, the NBA, the NFL and Sony Music. While he has built a remarkable career and has been recognized as Startup Canada’s Young Entrepreneur of the year, his true “super-power” is teaching people how to be effective social media storytellers. A LinkedIn Top Voice on entrepreneurship, Goswami will teach anyone, of any age, how to tell their story online.
Dr. Erica Carleton, U of R Assistant Professor and RBC Women in Leadership Research Scholar, will join the tour for the first four lectures. Dr. Carleton’s presentation will discuss her background and work at the University of Regina, as well as her current research on the topic of leadership, gender, and well-being.
Dr. Raven Sinclair is a Sixties Scoop survivor and University of Regina Professor and researcher. She has studied the Sixties Scoop and Indigenous Child Welfare in Canada for two decades, most recently with the support of a five-year Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Insight Grant.
