WEYBURN – A donation from the Weyburn Credit Union’s Community Fund helped put the Weyburn Care-A-Van over the top in their fund drive for a replacement of their van.

Marie Ballenas, commercial/ag loan support and community fund member for Weyburn Credit Union, presented a donation of $2,500 to Scott Moffat, chair of the Weyburn Care-A-Van Society on Friday.

The donation was for a new 2022 Dodge Caravan with a manual wheelchair ramp, which is available for families to rent to transport loved ones who are wheelchair bound.

Care-A-Van board member Myron Fletcher noted that the Weyburn Group Homes Society were also helped, as they were able to buy the 2013 van from the Care-A-Van Society, as they had trouble finding a suitable van for their needs.

“We’re very appreciative of the support from the Weyburn community,” said Fletcher, noting they put 1,500 km on the new van within the first couple of weeks they had it in service.

The Care-A-Van Society is also looking for part-time drivers who can assist the main driver for the bus, Sandra Montgomery, when she needs time off.

The rental van can be driven by anyone with a valid driver’s licence, and the Care-A-Van group does not supply a driver for it.

For those applying to drive the bus, they need to provide a driving abstract and criminal record check, as it transports children to and from school, said Fletcher.
