WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service received 79 calls for service during the week of April 17 to 23, resulting in a total of 22 charges. Of the charges, eight were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, and 14 under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA).
Police received a complaint of a sexual assault on Thursday. As a result of the investigation, a male was charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm under the Criminal Code of Canada, and a warrant for his arrest was obtained. The male was later taken into custody with assistance from the RCMP. The male was released on an undertaking with an upcoming court date.
City police responded to an apartment unit on Thursday as a female was requesting help. Police determined the female had been assaulted. After a brief period of negotiation, a male was arrested and taken into custody. The male was charged with assault and uttering threats, and was released from custody with an upcoming court date.
Weyburn police also attended to a liquor store after two individuals entered the store, grabbed packages of alcohol products and left on foot. This matter is still under investigation at this time.
City police were called to a residence on Saturday as a female had been assaulted. A male was arrested and taken into custody. He was released on an undertaking and will appear in court at a later date.
The Weyburn Police Service received a complaint of a shoplifter at a local business on April 17. The suspect left the store prior to police arriving. The matter is still under investigation.
Also on the 17th, police received several complaints of a vehicle being driven dangerously in the Wal-Mart parking lot and along Sims Avenue. Police were able to locate the suspect and vehicle. As a result, a male was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle under the Criminal Code of Canada, as well as two charges under the Traffic Safety Act. The vehicle being driven was also impounded.
Police received a complaint from a local business of counterfeit money being passed to them on April 18. This matter is under investigation.
The Weyburn Police Service also responded to a variety of calls including online scams, well-being checks, and several calls dealing with traffic and the snow from the recent storm.
