The Weyburn Beavers ended a four-game losing streak June 23 with a 7-2 win over the Yorkton Cardinals in a pivotal division match-up at Tom Laing Field.

Weyburn scored three runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings to rally from a 2-0 deficit and beat the Cardinals. Dillon Yeaman's two-run single in the seventh inning gave Weyburn the lead.

Kilby Perdomo hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning to erase any chance of a Yorkton comeback.

Alex Gale came up with his best start of the season, a complete game effort in which he allowed only two runs - one of them unearned - and five hits, while striking out five. The win was his first of the season.

The Beavers lost 14-9 to the Regina Red Sox on June 17, 9-6 to the Moose Jaw Millers on June 19 and 9-3 to the Melville Millionaires on June 21.

Weyburn jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead against Regina, but the Red Sox scored four runs in each of the first and second innings. Weyburn was never within three runs again.

Weyburn rallied from a couple of early deficits to tie Moose Jaw at 5-5 in the fifth inning, but the Millers pulled away.

The Beavers led Melville 3-1 in the middle of the second inning, but Melville scored twice to tie the game, and added two in the third and four in the fourth. Daniel Perron hit a two-run home run in the second inning for Weyburn.

Weyburn hosted Melville on June 24. (Results not available at press time).

The Beavers are third in the Eastern Division with a 6-9 record. They lead Moose Jaw by a game-and-a-half for the final playoff spot in the division.

Regina will visit Weyburn on June 25. Then the Beavers play their next four games on the road: June 27 in Regina, June 28 in Yorkton, and a double-header in Swift Current on June 30.

Moose Jaw will be in Weyburn for a double-header on July 1.

The second game of the double-header in Swift Current will mark the halfway point in the Beavers' season..
