ESTEVAN - The Estevan Bruins faced the Weyburn Red Wings in a preseason contest Saturday night in Estevan.
After a scoreless opening frame, Weyburn opened the scoring on a goal by Aleko Sdrakas 6:59 into the second period. Estevan tied the game with 8:36 to play in the third when Wyatt Sorken scored for the Bruins.
Overtime settled nothing, although the Red Wings outshot the Bruins 6-2 in the extra frame, so the game went to a shootout. The Red Wings outscored the Bruins 2-1 in the penalty shot contest to win the game 2-1.
Drayden Ramage stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced for Weyburn. The Bruins' Cam Hrdlicka made 36 saves on 37 shots he faced.
It was the first game of the exhibition season for the Bruins, who are the reigning Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League champions. Weyburn was playing their second game. They defeated the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Niverville Nighthawks 3-2 on Wednesday night in Souris, Man.
The two teams will meet again Monday night in Weyburn, starting at 7 p.m.
