ESTEVAN — The Estevan Minor Hockey Association's fourth annual Aaron Lavoie Memorial U18 Tournament was held from Friday to Sunday at Affinity Place and the Power Dodge Arena.

Eight teams entered the competition, with each team playing three round-robin games and a playoff game. The Swift Current Knights won the A final, defeating the Indian Head Chiefs 4-0, while the Weyburn Wings defeated the Yorkton Terriers 6-2 in the B final.

In the C final, the Estevan Bears fell 7-6 to the La Ronge Ice Wolves in a shooutout, and in the D final, the Brandon Wheat Kings knocked off the Estevan Wolves 10-2.

The Bears went 1-3 on the weekend. They opened the tournament with a 9-6 win over Brandon, but then lost 6-0 to Yorkton and 11-3 to Swift Current.

The Wolves, meanwhile, fell 5-1 to Indian Head, 7-3 to Weyburn and 2-1 to La Ronge in their round-robin games.

The tournament is held each year in memory of Lavoie, who died in 2019 at the age of 16. A ceremonial opening face-off was held before the game between the Bears and the Wheat Kings.
