REGINA - Two softball teams from southeast Saskatchewan have captured provincial championships.
The Estevan Elite captured the U11 tournament that was held in Regina on the weekend. Estevan defeated the Weyburn Wild 9-8 in the final.
It was a dramatic win, as the Elite scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and final inning. Lexi Turner scored the winning run after a hit by Kensie Aspinall.
The Elite went 2-1 in the round robin. They were second in their pool and advanced to the playoffs. Estevan defeated Gravelbourg in the quarter-final and Moose Jaw in the semifinal round.
A total of 19 teams were entered.
The Southeast Sun Devils U15 team, meanwhile, won their provincial championship Sunday by defeating the Parkland Predators 7-5 in the final in Saskatoon.
The Sun Devils opened the tournament with a 10-3 victory over the Humboldt Thunder and a 16-9 triumph over the Tisdale Riverdogs on Friday. Saturday's games saw them drop a decision against Parkland (score not available) but win 8-6 over the Muenster A's.
Then they beat the Riverdogs 13-5 in the semifinal.
