ESTEVAN - One team has advanced to the playoff round at the Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Estevan, and three more teams will be decided.

Nancy Martin’s rink defeated Sherry Anderson’s team 7-6 in the A final Friday afternoon at Affinity Place in the provincial women’s curling championship. Martin scored one in the final end to get the victory.

Martin scored once in the first and stole two in the second. Anderson replied with one in the third and stole two in the fifth. The teams traded scores of two in the sixth and seventh ends, and single points in the eighth and ninth to be tied at 6-6, and Martin notched the winning point.

Martin and Anderson were teammates at one time.

Two games were held in the B event on Friday morning. Robyn Silvernagle knocked off Amber Holland 10-3 in nine ends, and Lorraine Schneider upended Ashley Howard 9-3 in nine ends.

Other games in the afternoon draw saw Brooklyn Stevenson defeat Skylar Ackerman 10-5 in nine ends in the B event, and Jessica Mitchell scored one in the 10th to defeat Madison Kleiter 8-7 in the C event.

The evening draw had four games: Silvernagel doubled up Schneider 8-4 and Anderson defeated Stevenson 7-2 in B event games, while Cindy Ricci edged Holland 6-5 and Barker defeated Howard 8-5 in the C event.

Curlers who are defeated in the C event are eliminated.

In the case of the Holland-Ricci game, Ricci curled with Holland a few years ago at provincials. Ricci, curling out of the Estevan Curling Club, scored two in the 10th end to stave off elimination.

The opening draw on Saturday will start at 10 a.m. Silvernagle will play Anderson in the B final, with the winner advancing to the playoffs Saturday evening and the loser moving down to the B event.

Three games will be in the C event as well: Mitchell against Stevenson, Schneider against Ackerman and Ricci versus Barker.

The two C event finals will be at 3 p.m., with the winners advancing to the playoffs.

The playoffs begin at 7:30 p.m. The A winner and the B winner will meet in one game, with the winner going to the championship final Sunday at 3 p.m. and the defeated moving to the semifinal Sunday at 10 a.m.

The two C finalists will also meet Saturday at 7 p.m., with the winner moving on to Sunday’s semifinal and the loser going home.
