Maryfield’s Val Sweeting wins fourth straight national women’s curling title

Val Sweeting of Maryfield has has won another national title.

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - Val Sweeting, who was born in Redvers and hails from Maryfield, is once again part of the top women’s curling team in Canada.

Sweeting is the third on Kerri Einarson's curling team, which won its fourth straight Scotties Tournament of Hearts Canadian women's curling championship Sunday with a 10-4 win over Manitoba's Jennifer Jones.

Einarson, Sweeting, second Shannon Birchard and lead Briane Harris became just the second team to win four consecutive Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Colleen Jones' foursome won four in a row from 2001-2004.

They will represent Canada in the women's world championship March 18-26 in Sandviken, Sweden.

The Einarson rink stole two points in the fifth end Sunday for a 4-2 lead, and scored five in the ninth to put the game away.

Before joining the Einarson rink, Sweeting skipped Alberta’s entry at the Scotties to appearances in the national final in 2014 and 2015.
