WINDTHORST - Jessie Jordan organized the fourth annual memorial golf tournament in memory of his friend and co-worker Myles Denora-Labreque.

Denora-Labreque arrived in the area a few years ago along with three friends, all from Quebec, looking for work in the area and all started their careers with Vaderstad near Langbank. Sadly Denora-Labreque passed away in October 2017 from two traumatic brain injuries he sustained following a quad accident.

The tournament was held this on Oct. 9 at the Windthorst Country Club with 12 golfers taking part, raising approximately $1,100 to go towards scholarships.

Following a pizza supper donated by the Kennedy Hotel, a variety of prizes were won by the golfers.

“It wasn’t a huge crowd this year seeing that it was held on Thanksgiving weekend,” says Jordan. “Participants this year were either friends or co-workers of Myles.”

A scholarship was started in Denora-Labreque name with $500 going towards someone going into a trade. Both the Kipling School and LVIC Lennoxville Vocational School in Quebec that Denora-Labreque and his friends attended will each receive a $500 scholarship.

To date, a total of over $15,000 has been raised from holding these golf tournaments. Vaderstad matches what the tournament raises each year.

“Flatland Plumbing gives $200 every year towards this as well,” says Jordan.

“My personal goal is to raise $25,000 by having these tournaments, enough to cover scholarships for 25 years.”

Another organizer of this tournament is Kim Doell who helped out selling the tickets prior to the tournament day.

“My boyfriend Jake went to school in Quebec with Myles so that’s how I got to know Myles,” explains Doell who was glad to help out with the event.
