Weyburn golfer Elanne Krainyk was awarded the Richard Collacott High School Bursary ($250) and $450 from the Athlete Assistance from the scholarship program of the Saskatchewan Golf Association (SGA).A member of the Weyburn Comp golf team, Krainyk recently had her first golf tournament of the year on May 13 in Oxbow. At this tournament, the Comp team won first overall and Elanne placed first in singles with a score of 83.Receiving both the bursary and Athlete Assistance from SGA means a lot to Krainyk. There are a lot of great golfers in this province and it is nice to have that support.
The Athlete Assistance funds must be used to cover expenses of coaching and tournaments. The Richard Collacott bursary was available to Krainyk because of her strong academics and can be used in any manner.
The SGAs Saskatchewan Academic and Golf Excellence (SAGE) scholarship program is presented annually to assist deserving member golfers in their pursuit of high school and post-secondary academic excellence.Future tournaments for Krainyk include a Weyburn-hosted high school event on May 18, then one in Estevan the last week of May. The high school season ends at the end of May, and Krainyk will be competing in the SGA tournaments occurring from June to August.Other events include junior provincials in Prince Albert and amateur women provincials in Kenosee in the middle of July. A top four placing in either of these provincials will advance Krainyk to nationals.
