The opening weekend of the Big Six Hockey League’s 2021-22 regular season continued on two fronts on Saturday.The Yellow Grass Wheat Kings defeated the Midale Mustangs 11-2, and the Carnduff Red Devils upended the Oxbow Huskies 8-1.
The games marked the first contests of the season for Yellow Grass and Carnduff, and the second for Oxbow and Midale.
Trevor Geiger had a four-point night, with a goal and three assists, in Carnduff’s win over Oxbow, and Ben Hiltz scored twice.
Jackson O’Brien, Devon Carriere, Nico Anderson, Kyle Garagan and Brandon Trask notched the other Carnduff goals.
Derek Cooney had the lone goal for Oxbow.
Cody Dumaine picked up the win for Carnduff in goal, while Cody Levesque was Oxbow’s goalie.
Kyle Mryglod (two goals and two assists) and Mike Onstad (a goal and three assists) each had four-point nights for Yellow Grass in their victory over Midale.
Dylan Frey and Rhett Nikolejsin had two goals each, while Zak Hicks, Tucker Neuberger, Burke Johnstone and Braden Mellon also scored.
Steven Lindenbach and Dustin Graham had Midale’s goals.
Nate Ferris was in goal for Yellow Grass, while Talen King was the goalie for Midale.
The lone game slated for Sunday night is the Bienfait Coalers at the Carnduff Red Devils at 7 p.m.
