Weyburn Beavers drop pair to Medicine Hat, edged by Brooks

The Beavers are on their Alberta road trip over this weekend, with games in Okotoks, Lethbridge and back in Brooks before they return home.

WEYBURN - The Weyburn Senior Beavers hosted the Medicine Hat Mavericks for a pair of games at Tom Laing Park over the long weekend.

The Beavers lost by scores of 13-10 on Sunday, and 6-5 on Saturday.

They hit the road this week and visited Brooks on Tuesday evening, and were edged out by a score of 16-15.

The losing pitcher was Brayden Mayencourt, but Jared Miller was on the mound to start for the first five innings. He was spelled off by Matthew Armendariz for an inning, then Ben Franz took over briefly, allowing eight runs, followed by Ryan Jundt who allowed two more.

The Beavers had three home runs on the night, from Caelen Dalman, Nolan Machibroda and Mayencourt, with Dalman getting three RBIs, Ryan Dauphinee getting two RBIs, Braeden Cordes getting one, Machibroda getting five RBIs, and single RBIs were batted in by Mayencourt, Travis Moore and Will Baker.

In Sunday’s match, Luke Zimmer was the losing pitcher, and he was on the mound for five innings before Jared Eifler came on and pitched for four innings.

Zimmer allowed 12 hits and 10 runs, and had three strike-outs, while Eifler allowed four hits and three runs, and had two strike-outs.

Dalman had one hit and two RBIs; Cordes had three hits, two runs and one RBI; Machibroda had three hits, two runs and two RBIs; Koby Kropf had one hit and one RBI; Nick Baker had three hits, one run and two RBIs; and Dauphinee had one hit and one RBI.

In Saturday’s game, where the Mavericks just edged out the Beavers, Jace Wessels was the losing pitcher, and he was on the mound for six inning, with Franz pitching for two and Jundt throwing for one.

Wessels allowed nine hits and five runs, with five strike-outs, Franz had two strike-outs and Jundt allowed one hit, one run and had one strike-out.

Cordes had two hits and one run; Machibroda had one hit and one run; Kropf had two hits, two runs and an RBI; and Brayden Mayencourt had one hit, one run and one RBI.
