Weyburn Thrashers bring home medals from provincials

The Weyburn Thrashers U13, U15 and U17 box lacrosse teams were in Moose Jaw for the Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association House Provincials this past weekend.

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Thrashers U13, U15 and U17 box lacrosse teams were in Moose Jaw for the Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association House Provincials this past weekend.  

The U13 Weyburn Security Thrashers began their tournament Friday morning, and defeated teams from Regina and Carnduff. Saturday morning they played against Carnduff again and came out with a win, but had a loss that afternoon against Regina. Sunday morning they lost their playoff game to Carnduff, finishing with a bronze medal.

The team roster includes Paycen Babiarz, Yael Herriot, Evrhet Schenher, Barrett Dennis, Arson Herriot, Hunter Moon, Cohen Baumgartner, Ronin Pouteaux, Landon Leroux, Harrison Baumgartner, Julie Labrecque, Ryder Stepp, Carter Friedrich and Liam Hartfield.

The U15 Weyburn Young Fellows Thrashers began their provincials tournament Thursday, besting the Regina Titans in the first game, but losing to Moose Jaw in their second game. They were back in play on Saturday with a win over Regina and then an exciting game Saturday evening with a win over Swift Current that was won in the final seconds of the game. 

Even more excitement was to come as the Thrashers advanced to the gold medal game against Moose Jaw. This game went into overtime, thanks to a last minute third period goal from Hudson Maloney to tie the score, and then Alex Labrecque scored the game winner with 10 seconds remaining in OT.

The roster includes Kashton Farnsworth, Rowan Bocian, Max Vennard, Andrew Charlton, Ozmun Steele, Leo Missal, Maddox Mohan, Chayse Willoughby, Shiloh Mickler, Nathan Rosengren, Branson Law, Alex Labrecque, Emmett Gill, Bode Pretty, Zachary Marcotte, Hudson Maloney and Quinton Stinson.

The U17 Weyburn Panther Drilling Thrashers opened their provincial play Friday afternoon, playing the Moose Jaw Mustangs. Weyburn beat the Mustangs, but then went on to lose to Regina.

Saturday play saw them beating Saskatoon on Saturday morning and then coming up with a big win over the other Regina team to advance them to the gold medal game on Sunday. Unfortunately they fell to Moose Jaw in this game, but came home with silver medals.

The roster includes Kalib Roy, Ella Schenher, Hunter Willoughby, Callie Dammann, James Ashworth, Brody Morrice, Vann Dennis, Connor Clay, Nash Hignett, Jack Missal, Sawyer Leko, A.J. Bratrud, Wyatt Mickler, Kaleb Sheasby, Ryder Hignett, Spencer Bell, Blake Becker, Brayden Morken and Benjamin Maloney.
