The Yellow Grass Wheat Kings took the opening game of their playoff series over Oxbow by the score of 3-2.

WEYBURN – The Yellow Grass Wheat Kings won their first game of the Big Six Hockey League playoffs vs the Oxbow Huskies on Tuesday night, winning 3-2.

Zach Douglas scored first, assisted by Dylan Frey and Braden Mellon, then Mellon scored, assisted by Frey and Douglas.

After a scoreless second period, Oxbow scored, and Mellon then scored what would be the game winner.

The second game in the Wheat Kings-Huskies series will be held on Friday, Feb. 17 at Yellow Grass, starting at 8 p.m., and if a third game is needed, it will be back in Oxbow on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m.

The Midale Mustangs lost out to the Redvers Rockets with a pair of losses over the weekend in the opening round of playoffs for the Big Six Hockey League.

They lost 5-0 in Redvers on Saturday, and 8-2 on Sunday in Midale to drop the best-of-three series.

Goal scorers for Midale were Steven Lindenbach and Brad Tomiski.

The Yellow Grass Wheat Kings opened their best-of-three series against the Oxbow Huskies on Tuesday night, with game 2 on Friday, Feb. 17 in Yellow Grass, and if needed, game 3 will be in Oxbow on Saturday, Feb. 18.
