John Stephen Paslawski

John Stephen Paslawski, late of Weyburn, formerly of Osage, passed away on January 1, 2016 at the age of 91 years. John was predeceased by his parents: John and Annie Paslawski; sisters: Maria in infancy, Rose Rysz; brothers: Joe, Harry, Peter, and Paul. He is survived by his children: Larry (Lyn) Paslawski, Drayton Valley, AB, Laurie (Vern) White, Stoughton, Gerry (Brenda) Paslawski, Vermilion, AB, Raymond (Kelly) Paslawski, Cedoux, Francis (Dale) Payton, Stoughton; brothers: Frank (Verna) Paslawski, High River, AB, Fred (Evelyn) Paslawski, Osage, Ray (Betty) Paslawski, Osage; sister Mary Anne Seitz, Weyburn; ten grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was born November 4, 1924 at Fox Valley. In 1926, John’s family moved to a farm west of Osage. He went to school at West Osage School. At age 19, John joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was a loading aircraftsman — keeping guns loaded and working properly. When the war ended was one of John’s greatest moments. In 1950, he married Theresa Daisy Mergl. They had five children which they raised on a farm by Osage. Farming was his life for 63 years and he loved every minute of it. John was an avid hunter and fisherman, especially duck hunting. Roast wild duck was his favorite, then using the bones to make duck soup. John was a dedicated Legion member of Branch #47 (Weyburn) for over 40 years. He was proud to wear his Legion uniform in parades and on Remembrance Day. He always had lots of war stories to tell at family gatherings. He was a private man — enjoying western music at home or reading instead of socializing. As he aged, health issues caused him to stop farming as it became too hard and in April 2014 he was forced to leave his farm. He moved to Regina for a few months and then back to Weyburn. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, January 6, at 10:30 am from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church with Father Gerry Bauche celebrant. Honorary Guard was represented by the Royal Canadian Legion, Weyburn Branch #47.  Active Pallbearers were: Konrad Fredericksen, Ryan Fredericksen, Derek Fredericksen, Dale Payton, Stephanie Paslawski, and Jenna Paslawski. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Lunch was held at the McKenna Hall, Weyburn, following the interment. For family and friends so wishing, donations in memory of John may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Weyburn Branch #47, 150 3rd Street, Weyburn. Arrangements were entrusted to RD Family Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Weyburn (848-0333 ~ 1-888-848-0333).
