Wendy Eileen Dammann, late of Weyburn, SK, age 69, died on February 16, 2018 in Weyburn General Hospital following her battle with cancer. Wendy was predeceased by her paternal and fraternal grandparents; her father Chuck Dammann; sister-in-law Darlene Dammann (Hill); and infant great niece Alyna. Wendy is survived by her mother Olivia Dammann; siblings: Sharlie Dammann-Cherpin (Lawrence Cherpin), Doug Dammann (Noreen), Gerry Dammann (Gayle), Bev Dammann-Hofmeister (Ken), Randy Dammann (Kathy), Dal Dammann; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces an great nephews. Wendy was born June 28, 1948 in Weyburn, SK and was the third of seven children born to Chuck and Olivia Dammann. After graduating high school in Stoughton, SK, Wendy completed a stenographer course. Her first employment was with the Saskatchewan governmentMedical Records Division in Regina, SK. In 1969 Wendy relocated to Weyburn where she accepted employment at the Weyburn Court House as Deputy Sheriff and Local Registrar. In 1977, Wendy became the first female sheriff in Canada. She remained in that position for twenty-five years until her retirement in 2002. Wendy received the award for Excellence in the Workplace and Woman of the Year in 2002. She was a Justice of the Peace and officiated a number of family weddings. Wendy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping golfing and curling. She was outgoing, social, and always made time for extended family and friends. While she had no biological children, Wendy had a special affinity for engaging with the younger generation. A Service of Remembrance for Wendy will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from Grace United Church, Weyburn, SK with Rev. M. Barnabas officiating. All in attendance are considered Honorary Pallbearers. Luncheon will be held at Knox Fellowship Hall, Weyburn, SK.
