WEYBURN – It was “about time” to celebrate the contributions of volunteers in Weyburn at the Volunteer Appreciation Night and AGM hosted by Communithon. The event, held at Southeast College on April 23, witnessed an impressive turnout of approximately 40 attendees, reflecting the unwavering support and dedication of the Weyburn community towards making a positive impact.
Embracing the theme “Every Moment Matters”, the evening was decked with symbolic gestures, including a 43-year Communithon timeline, clock décor, and prompts for a time capsule, serving as touching reminders of the invaluable contributions of volunteers to the event.
“Whether your contribution is big or small, truly every moment does matter to make Communithon special each year,” said Lindsay Manko-Bauche, Communithon Vice-Chair and Volunteer Coordinator.
Remarkably, a staggering one-tenth of Weyburn’s population volunteered on the day of Communithon, whether behind the scenes, as representatives of local businesses, or as entertainment, showcasing the remarkable unity and spirit of giving within the community. To honour the inter-generational giving of youth to Communithon, the Ambassador Squad was also honoured with certificates for their outstanding involvement and dedication towards advancing the mission of Communithon.
The event also provided a platform to highlight the diverse opportunities available within Communithon’s sub-committees, including Business, Finance, Entertainment/Staging/Facility, Volunteer, Decoration, and Allocations.
“This event truly takes a village, and if community members want to get involved behind the scenes, they can contact us at [email protected], or through our social media accounts,” said Manko-Bauche.
Following the formal proceedings, significant motions were carried, shaping the trajectory of Communithon’s endeavours for the upcoming year. It was decided that Communithon 2024 will take place on October 25, under the theme, “Fall in Love with Communithon: It’s Our Time”. Additionally, this year’s fundraising goal was set at $98,000, paying homage to Kathryn Groshong, the oldest and longest-serving volunteer, who will celebrate her 98th birthday in May.
“Communithon extends its heartfelt gratitude to all volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who continue to champion the cause of community welfare and empowerment. Together, we reaffirm our commitment that every moment matters,” said a statement from the committee.
The committee’s next meeting will be Tuesday, May 7, at 7 p.m.
