ASSINIBOIA — Reigning Notekeu Hockey League champions, Assiniboia Sr. Rebels, will have another crack at the league title.
After winning the deciding game against Mossbank Blades in semifinals, in overtime, the team is now up against Yellow Grass Wheat Kings in a best-of -seven series final.
Mossbank put three of four of their quarter-final games into overtime, winning that series, and pushed the Rebels into overtime for the final semifinal game, showcasing the strength of their team.
Rebels opened the league final with a win at home on March 5. Game two in Yellow Grass takes place on March 14. March 15, the Rebels will host game three on home ice, while returning to Yellow Grass for game four on March 19. Game five is in Assiniboia March 21 with game six in Yellow Grass. And, if a game seven is necessary, Assiniboia gets to host the deciding game in the series on March 26.
Sr Rebels provincial playoffs
The Rebels Sr. handed Oxbow Huskies a loss in the opening series of Hockey Sask Provincial C finals. This put them up against Foam Lake Flyers for the south provincial final.
Southland Co-op Centre was the venue for game one of this provincial playoff series March 1. Even with a strong hometown crowd behind them, the Sr. Rebels were unable to defeat Foam Lake, losing their opening game by a score of 7-3. Sr. Rebels are now down one game in the best of three series. Game two takes place in Foam Lake on March 8 and if a game three is needed it will also be in Foam Lake on March 9.
