MOOSE JAW — A bail hearing has been set for Tyrel Terence Cronan, who is accused of impaired driving causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, and flight from police.
Cronan, 26, appeared by video in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Nov. 20, where his defence lawyer, Merv Nidesh, asked that a show-cause hearing be scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 2. Further, he asked that court officials use a bail verification report to determine whether his client is eligible for GPS tracking or electronic monitoring.
Judge Ross Green accepted the recommendation and adjourned the matter to early December.
An officer observed the vehicle travelling northbound on Main Street North at a high rate of speed at 11:49 p.m. The vehicle then struck a meridian on the 1300 block of Main Street North, causing the vehicle to roll over.
As a result of the crash, a 31-year-old male passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene, while Cronan and another occupant of the vehicle were transported to hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Due to police involvement before the collision, the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) was notified and is now investigating the circumstances of the injuries to the occupants. The Moose Jaw Police Service continues to co-operate with SIRT and did not plan to comment further about the investigation.
Police blocked the north and southbound lanes on Main Street North on Nov. 8 so officers could investigate the cause of the motor vehicle collision. They later re-opened the street to traffic.
