MOOSEJAWTODAY.COM -- The biggest games of the season for the Central Cyclones and Vanier Vikings are less than 24 hours away.
The two Moose Jaw league city finalists will be among the teams to watch during the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association 4A boys provincial championship taking place Friday and Saturday at Central and Sask Polytech.
Central is one of the pre-tournament favourites after winning their regional playdown at Regina Luther last weekend, with Vanier finishing tied for third.
The Cyclones open play at 12 p.m. Friday against Humboldt before taking on Lumsden at 2 p.m. and Yorkton Sacred Heart at 5 p.m., with all games at Central Collegiate. They then wrap up their round robin at 10 a.m. Saturday against North Battleford John Paul II at Sask Polytech.
The Vikings take on Melfort at 1 p.m. Friday, followed by Melville at 3 p.m. and Meadow Lake at 5 p.m., with all their games at Sask Polytech. Vanier wraps the round robin at 9 a.m. Saturday against Kindersley at Central.
The top four teams from each pool will advance to the quarter-final games at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by the semifinals at 3 p.m. The bronze medal game will go at 4:30 p.m. and gold medal contest at 5:30 p.m., with both of the medal games taking place at Sask Polytech.
It’s championship weekend across the board for boys volleyball, with 1A provincials in Glaslyn and Medstead, 2A provincials in Hillmond and Lashburn and 3A provincials in Esterhazy.
