The City of Moose Jaw has announced the creation of an Indigenous logo and its first-ever Indigenous Relations web page.

The logo incorporates elements of the city’s “notorious” graphic, which launched in 2020 and pays tribute to Moose Jaw’s Indigenous origins. The new logo will be used for city-related Indigenous celebrations, ceremonies and correspondence.

The Indigenous Relations web page was created to provide Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents with a directory of local and regional resources, important dates, and contacts.

“These initiatives are the latest steps in the city’s path to reconciliation,” said city manager Maryse Carmichael. “We hope these actions will further strengthen relationships with Indigenous community members and neighbours and provide all Moose Javians with insight into Moose Jaw’s Indigenous cultures, which continue to grow.”

The Indigenous Relations page includes the city’s official land acknowledgement, which was approved by city council in 2023. It also explains the city’s Indigenous liaison role and provides contact information.

“One of our main goals has been to reestablish relationships between the City of Moose Jaw and Métis & First Nations,” explained Hayley Hart-Rushinko, acting manager of communications and stakeholder relations.

“We’ve listened to our Indigenous stakeholders and will continue to seek mutually beneficial engagement and partnership opportunities. The city has a leadership role to play in reconciliation and we will work towards answering the calls to action and creating a more inclusive community.”
