PPC candidate Chey Craik connects with voters at Dooly’s

Craik said the goal was to bring people together and reinforce the PPC’s presence in the Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan riding

MOOSE JAW — People’s Party of Canada (PPC) candidate Chey Craik spent Friday evening meeting with supporters at Dooly’s Billiards & Lounge, using the opportunity to connect with residents ahead of the federal election.

The April 11 event featured a casual mix of pizza, pies, and conversation. Craik said the goal was to bring people together and reinforce the PPC’s presence in the Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan riding.

“We had pizza, we had pies, cookies, a fundraising event… It was a good turnout,” Craik said. “It’s basically just to let people know we are here, and that we’re speaking for them.”

Craik, who also ran under the PPC banner in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections, emphasized the importance of community visibility and grassroots organizing for the party.

“You have to get the team together, and we’re organized. It has been fantastic,” he said near the end of the event.

Although not everyone who planned to attend could make it, Craik noted there was still strong support from those absent who contributed financially or who expressed encouragement.

“The amount of people that were actually able to attend (was decent). We had friends and supporters come… It’s good to be seen in the community doing the work (that we do).”

The event was one of several planned appearances Craik said he and his team are making in the lead-up to election day.

“Our next event is actually tomorrow morning at The Beacon in Caronport,” he said on Friday. “We’re going to be out there from 10 until noon and yeah, we’re just going to talk with people there.”

Craik also mentioned stops planned in Lumsden, Lanigan, and several along Highway 42, though he added that most of these logistics are handled by his campaign team.

We’re out campaigning and talking to people every day,” he said. “As for any specific (times and dates for upcoming events), that’s in my team’s hands.”

This campaign, Craik said, has benefited from increased volunteer support compared to his previous run.

“We’ve seen a huge amount of support this time. In fact, we’ve had more volunteers this time than ever before,” he noted.

Asked what message he would most like to convey to voters, Craik focused on vote-splitting concerns and encouraged residents to “vote your voice.” He said a key issue he’s hearing from voters is concern about splitting the vote on the centre and right.

However, he argued, the PPC and Conservative parties make up the majority of the political landscape in this riding, and there’s little risk of dividing the vote between them.

“There’s only going to be five candidates on the ballot when you go to vote on April 28, and I implore you to vote your voice, not their fear.”

Craik concluded with a message to voters ahead of the federal election.

“We’re doing everything we can, and we’re here for you,” he said. “I will be your voice in Ottawa, and I’m happy to be that voice.”
