2024 construction season a wrap for City of Regina

City reports that Ring Road is now fully open.

REGINA - Construction season is officially done for another year in the city of Regina.

The city reports in a news release their program for 2024 has wrapped up, now that Ring Road is fully open and lane restrictions have been removed.

According to their news release Tuesday, projects completed for 2024 include the following:

$16.8 million for 13.7 kms of residential roads; 

$13.6 million for improvements to 7.1 kms of major roadways; 

$52.1 million in water, wastewater and drainage programs;

$88 million for the Water Network Expansion Project to prepare Regina for future growth; 

$32 million to renew and build several city facilities and recreational spaces.

In total, 2024 saw Regina do $231 million in transportation, water, wastewater, drainage, facilities and parks and recreation projects, according to the city.

The City also completed several projects to improve traffic and pedestrian safety. They cite the following: over 13 kms of sidewalks and over 19 kms of paved and gravel alleys; 1.4 kms of new multi-use pathways; traffic calming curbs, zebra crosswalks, flashing school zone signs, intersection signals and new or upgraded pedestrian crossings; the launch this summer of the Cathedral Community Safety Zone; lighting upgrades to 13th Avenue; new street lighting on Victoria Avenue East; and lighting upgrades along Ring Road.

“The City of Regina’s investment in our community infrastructure is necessary to prepare for growth and build a more vibrant community,” said Kurtis Doney, Deputy City Manager of City Operations, in a statement. 

“We made a lot of progress on several major projects this year including the Southwest Sewer Upgrade, Water Network Expansion, and the Dewdney Avenue Revitalization Project.”

The city’s attention now turns to winter work. According to their news release this includes the usual snow plowing and ice control as well as traffic signal upgrades, water and sewer infrastructure repairs, and preparing for construction season again in 2025.
