Help to get vehicle out snow turns out to be a ruse

Police arrived and learned that the victim’s vehicle was stuck in the snow and the male suspect offered to help get it out before fleeing in the victim’s vehicle.

REGINA - A man is facing charges related to a case involving a stolen vehicle in Regina.

On Dec. 21 at approximately 12:20 a.m., police were dispatched to the 2900 block of Parliament Avenue for the report of a stolen automobile in progress.

Police arrived and learned that the victim’s vehicle was stuck in the snow and the male suspect offered to help get it out before fleeing in the victim’s vehicle.

It was also learned that the vehicle was involved in a hit and run shortly after.

Officers were unable to locate the suspect at that time.

At approximately 4:20 p.m. that afternoon, officers located the described vehicle parked in the 800 block of Victoria Avenue where the male suspect was arrested without incident.

As a result, a 29 year-old man, from Regina, is charged with: theft of a motor vehicle; possession of property.

He made his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court Today on Dec. 23.
