REGINA - The City of Regina is set to host an Indigenous Procurement Business Gathering, where city leaders and Indigenous vendors will gather to learn more about business needs, projects, services and Regina’s procurement processes.
According to a news release, the gathering will take place on Feb. 25 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The event will include a panel with Regina leaders and Terry Bird, a keynote speaker. Indigenous businesses from around the city are open to attend the event. The city said "it is committed to supporting Indigenous entrepreneurship, business, and economic development through the Indigenous Procurement Policy."
With the policy, the city believes it can break down systemic barriers for Indigenous vendors, which will allow them to enter the municipal procurement environment. Of the over 200 vendors the city has listed, 14 have been awarded municipal contracts. In 2023, Regina spent $2.9 million on Indigenous procurement.
