REGINA — Salthaven West Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre is calling on the community to help fund a new clinic just north of Regina.
After years of searching, the organization has secured land in the RM of Sherwood, five minutes north of Regina. The location allows Salthaven West to remain close to the community it has served for a decade. The non-profit is now working to raise $440,000 to complete the clinic, which is essential to its continued operation.
As part of its fundraising efforts, Salthaven West is encouraging donations for GivingTuesday on Dec. 3. An anonymous donor has pledged to match contributions up to $10,000 between Nov. 26 and Dec. 3, doubling the impact of every dollar given during the campaign.
Each year, Salthaven West provides medical care to more than 1,400 sick, injured or orphaned wild birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. It also fields and diverts over 5,000 wildlife-related emergency calls and offers educational programs about wildlife conservation and coexistence.
“Our ability to continue providing rehabilitation services hinges on achieving our fundraising goal. Without this new facility, our operations could face a serious disruption,” Angela Tremka, the centre’s community engagement manager, said.
Salthaven West is the only wildlife rehabilitation centre in southern Saskatchewan, making its work vital to the region’s ecological health and community education.
