Between The Lines: The best part of CFL draft day

It’s a nervous day for football athletes across the country. It’s Draft day in the Canadian Football League.

It’s not just the athletes who are on edge. Football Operations staffs across the country will contemplate decisions that will determine the direction of their franchises.

It’s not all stress, though. According to Saskatchewan Roughriders Vice President of Football Operations and general manager Jeremy O’Day, there is a best part of draft day.

“The excitement after you make your picks. We're going to pick the guys we want because that's why we pick them, right? Then, making those calls to the players, letting them know that they're becoming professional football players. That's pretty cool to be able to do that.”

“These kids have always dreamed about playing pro football, and they're going to get a call from a pro team saying that they got drafted, which means they really liked them. So that's a fun part to it,” O’Day added. “Then post-draft is always fun because we can sit back and say, hey, this is what we did, and it turns the page on the off-season after the draft.”
