Melfort Mustangs advance to SJHL’s Final Four with convincing Game 5 victory

The defending champions earn their spot into round 2 of the SJHL Playoffs

KLIPPERS 2, MUSTANGS 5

Kaleb Binner had one goal, one assist to lead the Melfort Mustangs to a 5-2 Game 5 victory over the Kindersley Klippers to join the Yorkton Terriers in round two of the SJHL Playoffs.

Reilly Kotai, Tristin Ziola, Logan Belton and Will Munro also scored for the Mustangs who got 19 saves from Kristian Coombs in the win.

Russ Demo and Ethan Sautner replied for the Klippers.


NORTH STARS 4, RED WINGS 3 (OT)

Jace Rask scored 3:21 into overtime to help the Battlefords North Stars stave off elimination with a 4-3 road victory over the Weyburn Red Wings in Game 5.

Nikita Ivashchenko also scored twice for the North Stars including the tying goal with 5:06 remaining in regulation.

Josh Sale, Chad Lebeau and Braigh Legrandeur provided the offence for the Red Wings who will be in North Battleford for Game 6 on Monday night.


BRONCOS 0, BOMBERS 9

The Flin Flon Bombers followed up back to back losses on the road, with a 9-0 victory over the Humboldt Broncos on Saturday night at the Whitney Forum.

Leo Seitz, Luke Lepper, Liam Hunks, Anthony Piccininno and Ryder Ringor each had one goal, two assists each to lead the Bombers while Carter Cormier, Hudson Brehaut, Ryder Mucha and Koen Senft chipped in with singles.

Matthew Kieper stopped 27 shots for his second shutout of the postseason.

Game 6 is set for Monday night at the Elgar Peterson Arena in Humboldt.
