Canora RCMP: Driver declines invitation to fight

A caller reported being cut off by a semi, which then stopped in the middle of the road. The driver exited the cab and started to make gestures towards the caller to fight.

Canora/Sturgis RCMP dealt with bank fraud, a suspicious man, and what was thought to be a break and enter.

CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 37 calls from Sept. 19 to Sept. 26; some of which included:

  • one 911 Act call,
  • one Aeronautics Act call,
  • two break and enters,
  • one Child Welfare Act call,
  • one Coroners Act call,
  • one dangerous driving,
  • one disturbing the peace,
  • one Firearms Act call,
  • two frauds,
  • one Mental Health Act call,
  • two mischiefs,
  • one offender management,
  • three other provincial calls,
  • two suspicious persons,
  • three thefts,
  • eight traffic offenses,
  • one Trespass Act call,
  • two vehicle collisions, and
  • one prisoner.

Fight avoided

On Sept. 19, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a road rage incident on Highway 759 in the RM of Preeceville.

The caller reported being cut off by a semi, which then stopped in the middle of the road. The driver exited the cab and started to make gestures towards the caller to fight. The caller drove away without further incident.

Police continue to investigate.

Bank fraud

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a call on Sept. 19 to investigate a fraud. Multiple unauthorized transactions had occurred to the caller’s bank account resulting in a significant theft. Police continue to investigate.

Just a wave

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a call about a suspicious man in the Preeceville area on Sept. 23. The caller wanted to report the man who had waved at the caller and was not from the area. Police spoke to the caller and determined further investigation was not required.

Doesn’t recognize family

On Sept. 24, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a break and enter complaint in the RM of Sliding Hills. The caller reported seeing three people inside a home that was supposed to be vacant. A second call was received and it was learned the three persons involved were the caller’s own children and police were no longer needed.

Electronic monitoring

A man was released to the Canora area on Sept. 24 on electric monitoring with a 24-hour curfew. Police are monitoring the man to ensure compliance with his conditions.
