Canora RCMP: Flying golf balls turn out to be marshmallows

The Canora/RCMP were called about people hitting golf balls towards homes in Canora. Police investigated and determined the golf balls were marshmallows.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP deal with an assault with bear mace, a back alley dispute, multiple break-ins and pellet gun mischief.

CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 121 calls from Aug. 8 to Aug. 22; some of which included:

  • seven 911 Act calls,
  • two animal calls,
  • two assaults,
  • two assaults with a weapon,
  • two breaches of peace,
  • five break and enter,
  • four bylaw offences,
  • one Child Welfare Act call,
  • two Coroners Act calls,
  • two disturbing the peace calls,
  • three failures to comply with conditions,
  • one false alarm,
  • one Firearms Act call,
  • one fraud,
  • one lost and found,
  • six Mental Health Act calls,
  • eight mischiefs,
  • two suspicious persons,
  • four thefts,
  • 35 traffic offences,
  • two traffic collisions,
  • one uttering threats,
  • two wellbeing checks and
  • three prisoners.

Not hitting golf balls, marshmallows

On Aug. 20, the Canora/RCMP were dispatched to a 911 call about individuals hitting golf balls towards homes in Canora. Police investigated and determined the golf balls were marshmallows and there was no threat to anyone’s property.

Argument leads to bear mace

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Aug. 19 to a disturbance at a parking lot in Preeceville. Police attended the scene and learned two women had been arguing which led to one of them spraying the other with bear mace. Police continue to investigate.

Back alley dispute

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received calls from two people, each accusing the other of blocking a back alley in Canora on Aug. 18. Both callers are known not to get along. Police attended and mediated the dispute.

Family Feud at the lake

On Aug. 18, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called to a disturbance by Good Spirit Lake.  Police attended the scene and learned two families camping had got into fight. Multiple persons were injured and one was taken to hospital. Police continue to investigate. Alcohol was a factor.

Not a wise visit

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called on Aug. 17 to remove a man from a residence in Canora. Police attended and learned the man was on a conditional sentence order with the condition not to be at the home. The man was arrested and remanded into custody.

Multiple break-ins

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated multiple break and enters to businesses in Preeceville on Aug. 15. Police continue to investigate.

Pellet gun mischief

On Aug. 12, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a mischief complaint in Preeceville. A window on a business had been damaged by a suspected pellet gun. Police continue to investigate.

Alcohol-related antics

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called to a home in Canora on Aug. 10 for an intoxicated man acting crazy. Police attended the home and arrested the man for breach of peace. The man was held in custody until sober and was released without charge.
