Canora RCMP: Intoxicated man threatening customers

On March 6, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance call at a business in Canora. The caller reported an intoxicated man was yelling, screaming and threatening people.

CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 33 calls from March 6 to March 13, some of which included:

  • one 911 Act call;
  • two breaches of peace;
  • two Child, Youth and Family Services Act calls;
  • one Controlled Drugs and Substances Act call;
  • one failure to attend court;
  • three failures to comply with release conditions;
  • two frauds;
  • one Mental Health Act call;
  • two mischiefs;
  • one theft under $5,000;
  • two traffic collisions;
  • 13 traffic offenses;
  • one suspicious person, and
  • two wellbeing checks.

Intoxicated, screaming customer

On March 6, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance call at a business in Canora. The caller reported an intoxicated man was yelling, screaming and threatening people. Police attended the scene and arrested a man for causing a disturbance. While in police custody the man intentionally defecated in his cell to create a mess that required professional cleaning services. The man was charged with mischief under $5,000.

Abusive video reported

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on March 7 of a report of child abuse in Preeceville after a caller from the United States reported seeing a woman blowing smoke in an infant’s face on TikTok live. Police were able to locate the suspect’s residence and attended the home with Child Family Services.

Impaired driver stuck in snow

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report on March 7 of an impaired driver on Burgis Beach Road. Police located a Ford F-350 stuck in the snow. The male driver was found to be impaired by alcohol. The man was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. Two breath samples of 190mg% and 200 mg% were obtained from the driver. The man was charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired and operation of a motor vehicle over 80mg%. The man’s drivers’ licence was suspended and his vehicle was impounded for 60 days.

Not a distress signal

On March 9, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of a light flickering on and off at a residence in Canora. The caller believed this was suspicious and someone may be trying to signal for help. Police attended the home and determined the cause of a flicking light was a malfunctioning motion sensor.

Feminine wiles costly

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report of a fraud on March 11. The caller reported sending over $5,000 in bitcoin after falling for a love scam and being asked for money. Police continue to investigate.
