CANORA - The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 46 calls from Sept. 14 to Sept. 21, some of which included: three 911 act calls, one assault, one criminal harassment, one disturbing the peace, one failing to comply with conditions, two false alarms, two Liquor Act calls, one Mental Health Act call, two mischiefs, two other provincial calls, four suspicious persons, two thefts, two traffic collisions, 15 traffic offenses, one Trespass Act call, and three wellbeing checks.
Intoxicated partier on the street
On Sept. 15, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of an intoxicated male in Canora causing a disturbance on the street. Police located the male at a house party and warned the male for his behaviour.
Underage open liquor
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP stopped a vehicle in Sturgis on Sept. 16 for speeding. Open alcohol was found in the vehicle during the traffic stop. An 18-year old male from Manitoba was charged and fined $360 under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act for minor possession of consume beverage alcohol.
Vodka theft
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP arrested a male for theft after he stole three bottles of vodka from the Sturgis Co-op Food Store on Sept. 16. The male was released on conditions to not attend the Sturgis Co-op Food Store and to attend court in Canora on Oct. 5.
Heavy trucks warned in Canora
On Saturday, Sept. 16, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP stopped heavy trucks traveling on Daniels Drive in Canora and gave warnings to the drivers for being in breach of the town of Canora traffic bylaw prohibiting travel on the roadway outside the time period of Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Canora/Sturgis RCMP members will now issue bylaw tickets to drivers who continue to ignore this traffic bylaw. The minimum fine for traveling on Daniels Drive outside the posted time period is $500.
Suspicious barbecue?
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Sept. 18 to a complaint of a suspicious male pushing a barbecue down the street in Canora. Police made patrols but were unable to locate the male or the barbecue.
Costly anger management absence
On Sept. 20, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP charged a male with breaching his probation order after he failed to attend anger management. A warrant was issued for the male’s arrest.
