Kamsack’s only motel for sale, owner begins new adventure close by

After owning Duck Mountain Motel for 11 years, owner April MacDonald is selling the property to focus on new journey with Duck Mountain Lodge in the nearby Provincial Park.

KAMSACK -The property of Duck Mountain Motel, located in Kamsack, is for sale.

April MacDonald has owned the property for 11 years, purchasing it in 2013, but now she's looking at a new venture.

This prime real estate boasts a motel, along with two brand new, fully equipped cabins, each featuring their own kitchens. The property also includes 10 fully serviced campsites making it attractive for travelers, contractors and recreational visits. The motel is also home to Kamsack’s only laundromat, making it convenient for both guests and local residents.

For the list price of $1.2M, the owner’s residence is right on site. This property is only 15 minutes from Duck Mountain Provincial Park.

MacDonald says, “It has been a very successful business and has grown very well over the years.  It is the only place for accommodations in Kamsack.  It has served me very well and has provided employment to many throughout the years. It is a great family business.  I was able to raise my children and work from home. I couldn’t have asked for anything better for myself and my children. “

MacDonald’s new adventure is the Duck Mountain Lodge located in the beautiful Duck Mountain Provincial Park. This recreational centre boasts a wide range of activities that include camping, golf, watersports and both downhill and cross-country skiing.

“I recently came across the opportunity to take on the task of renovating and re-opening the Duck Mountain Lodge which has been closed since 2016. It was being scheduled for a demolition and I couldn’t let that happen,” adds MacDonald.

After looking at the building and determining it was in great shape, MacDonald decided she was up for the task of providing the property the TLC it needed and deserved. After one year of continuous renovations, the restaurant, the lounge along with 21 hotel rooms and a conference room are open.

As an outdoor enthusiast herself, MacDonald knows this is the perfect opportunity to work in the environment she loves.

“I am very passionate about cooking and have been reading cookbooks like novels for almost 20 years. I specialize in healthy cooking and eventually want to incorporate a whole line of healthy and delicious meals by using all real ingredients. In this day and age that’s hard to come by,” says the new lodge owner.

MacDonald is also a yoga teacher, meditation and sound healer and plans on hosting numerous health retreats at this place in the future, once her time allows it.

“I’m ready for new adventures in my life and I hope the motel finds a good new owner.  I’m finding it too difficult to run both and I want to put all my efforts on all my future plans and journey.”

Will the only accommodations in Kamsack find a new owner soon? Those who supported this business in the past as well as local residents are hopeful that someone will come in to fill this need in their community.
