Could a $1 million lottery prize be Saskatchewan's best-kept secret? Or is a big surprise still awaiting a lucky player? One way or another, a LOTTO MAX ticket worth $1 million from the December 20, 2013 draw hasn't yet been presented for a prize claim. The ticket was issued somewhere in Saskatchewan, but not in either Saskatoon or Regina.
The winning set of MAXMILLIONS numbers for the outstanding prize are 9, 17, 20, 27, 36, 38, and 42. The winning ticket will have all seven numbers on one line.
"If you have any older tickets you haven't checked yet, this is a great time to do it," said Andrea Marantz, spokesperson for Western Canada Lottery Corporation. "Even if you don't find the million-dollar winner, thousands of smaller prizes are won on every LOTTO MAX draw."
"We want to see the winner or winners claim a prize whenever that's possible."
If the million-dollar prize isn't claimed in a year from the draw - by December 20, 2014 - the prize will expire, and no-one will be able to claim it. Unclaimed prizes on LOTTO MAX and LOTTO 6/49 are returned to lottery players through augmented jackpots, or through special bonus draws and promotions.
Why hasn't anyone claimed the prize yet? It may be as simple as someone not knowing they have a winning ticket. Some players wait until they have several tickets before checking all at once. One winner delayed checking his ticket because he was enjoying his lottery daydreams. Imagine his surprise when he finally checked his ticket and realized it was a $21 million winner!
It's possible the winner or winners already know they've won, but are taking time to get used to the idea. Several years ago, a Saskatoon couple waited from October to June to claim a $10 million windfall. Their reason? They wanted to wait until the end of the school year to minimize any disruption to their children.
