Update: Saskatoon police arrest armed suspect after weapons call

SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit has made an arrest in connection to a weapons call on Wednesday.

On Aug. 31 at around 1:15 p.m., officers observed a man pointing a firearm at a vehicle in the 200-block Avenue W South. He retreated back inside a residence, and the SPS Tactical Support Unit and Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the location. At approximately 2 p.m., the 22-year-old man exited the residence and was taken into custody, without further incident. A search of the home recovered a sawed-off rifle and accessible ammunition.

The 22-year-old man is charged with pointing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition, and breach of conditions. He was also wanted on a Canada Wide Warrant for breach of statutory release.
