Dallas Pelly of Cote First Nation, who was a member of the Indigenous students’ council, received an award for leadership.

The 48 Aboriginal students received awards for their academic, leadership and community outreach accomplishments.

Pelly has shown tremendous leadership both in the College of Education and at the U of S as a whole, said Meghan Sired, communications co-ordinator for the vice-provost teaching and learning service team at the university.

“He is the former president of the Indian Teacher Education Program Student Council and has worked hard to engage the student body,” Sired said. “He shows passion in all that he does and is a tremendous role model.”

Among the persons expected to attend the ceremony, in addition to the students being recognized were: Tribal Chief Felix Thomas, who was to present the opening remarks; U of S President Peter Stoicheff, who was to present congratulatory remarks; Jeff Baker, a member of the faculty; Dana Carriere, a member of the alumni; Graeme Joseph, team leader of First Nations, Metis and Inuit success, and Canadace Wasacase-Lafferty, director of Aboriginal initiatives.
